Magic mushrooms are still illegal, at least for now, there is no doubt about it. However, their spores are often excluded from these laws. Why is that? Because not the magic mushrooms themselves are banned, but the active ingredients they contain, named psilocybin and psilocin. Psychedelic mushrooms are considered a “container” for these substances, and this is what makes them illegal.
The spores of these mushrooms, however, do not contain any of these ingredients and are thus in a kind of gray area of the law. However, once the spores germinate, the mycelium and the mushrooms they produce are illegal.
Cultivation of magic mushrooms is illegal, so the spores can only be used for purposes that do not involve cultivation, consumption and marketing – such as microscopy and identification studies. You do not have to represent a university or a research program to be allowed to order a spore syringe online for research purposes, but you have to be careful about these legal aspects in order not to conflict with the law and risk penalties.
Always buy the spores from a reliable source, so as not to risk receiving spores that have already entered the germination phase, otherwise you will bear the legal consequences, and the excuse that you did not know what you were buying is not relevant in the eyes of the law.
